Kazuo Ishiguro Wins Nobel Prize in Literatureカズオ・イシグロ氏、ノーベル文学賞受賞

人間・文化
This year’s Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Japanese-born English writer Kazuo Ishiguro. The Nobel Committee made the announcement on October 5th.

Born in Nagasaki, Ishiguro moved to the UK with his family when he was five. He only returned to Japan in his thirties. However, growing up in a Japanese family with memories of Japan gave him the incentive to write. His first two novels are set in Japan. He is best known for “The Remains of the Day,” which won Britain’s prestigious Man Booker Prize. The Nobel Committee said Ishiguro “has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.”

The announcement immediately put Ishiguro in the spotlight in Japan. Sales of his translated works have also surged.
